Gallery "Transitions"

“Transitions” is a group exhibit showcasing the artwork of more than fourteen art teachers from across the Illinois Valley area, presented at the Prairie Arts Center during the month of October. An opening reception is planned from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4. Wine, punch and appetizers will be served. The public is invited to attend. The exhibit will continue through Oct. 26 and can be viewed during gallery hours from 10:00-12:00 Wednesdays and from 1:00-4:00 Saturdays and Sundays.

The title of the exhibit reflects the various stages in which these artists are presently serving in their careers. Some are fairly new to the profession, while others are nearing retirement. Still others are already retired. “No matter how busy the lives of these teachers are, they all have managed to find time to create art and all have a clear understanding of the importance of art in their lives,” said Kathy Ballard, organizer of the event. Works of art on paper and canvas will be presented, as well as art in ceramics, jewelry, mixed media and photography. Many items will be for sale.

This is the third show of its kind presented at the Prairie Arts Center. Teachers participating in the exhibit are coming from Peoria District 150, Illinois Valley Community College, Princeton District, Hall High School, Depue Unit District, Bureau Valley District and Peru Parkside. This event is free and open to the public.
