Gallery "Uncommon Art"

Two of the area’s best known artists will team up together to present a month-long art exhibit of “Uncommon Art” in the gallery of the Prairie Arts Center beginning with an opening wine and hors d'oeuvre reception on Friday, October 3, 2014, 6:00 – 8:00 pm.

Susan Berry, best known for her wire sculptures, believes that “art beautifies the world and requires one to be a creative builder”. She challenges herself to create artwork that is outside of the box, or as she calls it “Uncommon Art”. Susan has a love for creating things out of wire that when viewed, inspires emotion, wonder and  delight. Her pieces include free standing as well as wall art in mixed media and 3-dimensional sculptures.

Kathy Ballard, on the other hand, has a more conventional outlook in her art. Her attention is primarily focused on crafting work that is well-made and technically correct. Kathy looks to nature for inspiration and finds numerous ways to incorporate it in her art. Well known for her pottery, she has recently been pushing herself to work “outside the box” exploring other art mediums and motifs. While taking more chances with her art she says it is “both exhilarating and scary at the same time, and quite “uncommon” for her to do”.

This exhibit is open and free to the public.
