Let’s hop back in time
to revisit the subject
of Christian Art as
it was portrayed
many years ago

In the
Spring of

1907

The Magazine of Christian Art
began a monthly publishing
run that continued through
December 1908

They all conform
to a similar format

For example,
every issue has
a few pages about
Saints and Symbols

There are many
photos of churches

and some of them
show floor plans

In addition to
articles on architecture,
anything crafted for worship
is covered in detail. I learned
about scupture and carving,
vestments and frescoes,
altars and fonts

Chalices,
Chasubles
& Chancels

Embroidery
& Crafts

Painting,
Illustration
& Decoration

Although informative,
many of the articles were highly
critical, some bordering on
righteous indignation

Some of the
writing was so dense
I couldn’t comprehend
the point being made

Maybe I should
feed the following text
into an AI and request
a summary
???

Every issue contained advertisements,
which I don’t consider worth showing,
but one of the entries in this list of
‘A Few Important Books’
caught my eye

While I’m grateful
that this historical record exists,
and happy to have discovered it
and learned from it, I have
to admit the experience
was unpleasant
at times
.

If you’re interested
in seeing some of the full
issues, here’s a link to

Let’s leave those
publications in
the past

and return to
the subject of
Biblical Art
!!!
