Minster’s Navigator

The largest collection
of stained glass in the
world is installed in
the windows of
York Minster
.

No single photograph
can do it justice, but I want
to show you an online resource
where you can view these
masterpieces in detail
:

When I visited,
I didn’t realize that
each of the tiny white
labels on the floor plan
was a link to a window,
so there is more than
one collection
to explore
:

When you click a link,
you will be shown a window
but this view is frustrating,
especially on a small
mobile device
:

Fortunately,
a touchscreen
or a mouse wheel
can be used to zoom
in and pan around
:

From this view,
you can press or click
any panel to get a detailed
view and description

As an added
bonus, clicking on
the panel once more
will display a high-
resolution image

Using
this system
allows every portion
of the immense windows
to be studied in detail
.

I wanted to highlight
York Minster’s Navigator
here and applaud them for
the work that went into
creating such a useful
and beautiful
resource
!!!

I hope more creative
developers will see this as
a shining example of making
artistic works accessible to
everyone in the world
.

We want to show
plenty of art here at the
Gallery of Biblical Art, but
I’m only going to show seven
more of the thousands of
panels you can view
over there
.
