Gary Wilson
has been working as
a professional artist
since 1969
He has
accomplished a
wide variety of faith-based
expression in his drawings,
paintings, and ceramics,
but I want to show
some of his round
bas-reliefs
:
And of His Kingdom
There Shall Be No End
-=< O >=-
I
don’t
know anyone
working in bas-relief,
and I haven’t seen many
round compositions,
either
.
I Will Not
Leave You Orphans

Gary taught
for 45 years as a
College Art Professor
Ceramics, Drawing, Art
History, Art Appreciation
and Creativity
and served
on the CIVA board
(Christians in the Visual Arts)
.
Prayers;
The Incense of Heaven
-=< O >=-
His work
has been installed in
hospitals, churches, nursing
homes, funeral homes and
universities, including
Notre Dame in
South Bend,
Indiana
.
Running Jonah
-=< O >=-“My
hope for my
future is that I might
be able to contribute
in some small way
to an increased
understanding
and valuing of
the importance
of creativity and
the arts within
the body of
Christ.”
God Will Make a Way
-=< O >=-
Gary
has many more
of these on his website,
and more faith-based
art in other formats
.
In God I Live and Breathe
and Have My Being
-=< O >=-
I may have
slighted Gary by
showing only this
one style of artwork
,
because I really enjoyed
browsing his collection
of drawings and
paintings,
too
.
Behold the Man
-=< O >=-
I’m
personally
struggling with
how to show biblical
art in the best way
.
Should I focus
on a specific
artwork
?
or
on the
artist’s body
of work
???
Hopefully
I will get better
at this as I go
along
,
but
in the
meantime
…
Drop by for a visit
!!!

Gary says,
I believe that
the purpose of my art
is to be ministerial, to
bring healing and hope
into a world that
desperately
needs both
.
My prayer
is that God will
touch all those who
‘pass by’ and take the time
to engage in the art, and
that a blessing will
come with the
encounter
.
Thanks, Gary!

One more thing;
I learned a new term today:
EXAMPLE:
The images on a penny
are slightly raised from
the surface of the coin

Of course, bas relief and round form make me think of Judy Chicago’s “The Dinner Party”!
Thanks for pointing me to “The Dinner Party”, Ron. I hadn’t heard of that!
I also just discovered “The International Honor Quilt” by the same artist, which has a similar theme.
