Theater: "Greater Tuna"

The Prairie Arts Council announces the first show of their 2019 theatrical season, “Greater Tuna”. The show will run February 22nd and 23rd with a curtain time of 7:30 p.m. and a matinee performance on February 24th at 2:00 p.m.

Greater Tuna is a comedy about a small town in Texas named Tuna, Texas' third smallest town. The wacky inhabitants of this town -- men, women, children and animals -- are all played by two skillful, transformative actors who must change parts at a rather breakneck speed and use inventive voicework.

Playing 10 characters each are veteran theater actor Gary  Talsky of Spring Valley and newcomer David Gray of Princeton. Both Talsky and Gray recreate characters that are universal to all small towns.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 815-875-2787 and leaving a message. Online ticket sales open January 15th and can be ordered at www.prairiearts.org. Reserved seats are $15 per person. Tickets can be picked up at the door on the night of each performance.

Director Dixie Schroeder is excited about presenting this unique show. "I think that folks will recognize a lot of the small town characters in their neighbors and friends. Both Gary (Talsky) and David (Gray) are doing a tremendous job with characterization and very quick costume changes.”

“Another unique aspect of the production is that the Logan Junior High School art club is assisting us,” Schroeder said. “Under the direction of Sara Scott and Christie Lucas, the club will be designing and painting the set and some set pieces. We are excited to have them joining us.”

The production staff of “Greater Tuna” is rounded out by Production Manager Ken Schroeder, Costumer-Jill Marti, Lighting design Matt Boehm, Student director Lauren Frost, Sound operator Maddie Devert, and Light operators Riley Lucas and Matthew Lucas.
