Today I’m
thinking
about
Mary
the
mother
of Jesus
.
I wanted
to learn what
she actually
SAID
in
scripture
.
So,
I looked it up,
and found
only
FOUR
instances
where Mary
ever spoke:
(or that
what she spoke
was recorded)
before Jesus was conceived,
while He was in the womb,
when He was a child, and
when He was an adult
.

Mary
spoke
to
FOUR
different
audiences:
to the angel Gabriel,
to her cousin Elizabeth,
to her son Jesus, and to
a group of servants.

Let’s look at
those instances:
In the
first chapter
of Luke’s gospel
we learn that the
angel Gabriel
was sent
from
God:
The angel Gabriel
Luke 1:28
came to her and said,
“Greetings, O favored one,
the Lord is with you!”
After
he tells her
about her son,
Luke 1:34
Mary
said to the angel,
“How will this be,
since I have not
been intimate
with a man?”
The first time
we hear Mary speak,
she is responding
to an angel:
Gabriel

During
Mary’s pregnancy
she visited Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth
heard Mary’s greeting
she was filled with
The Holy Spirit,
and proclaims
the familiar
verse:
“Blessed are
you among women,
and blessed is the
fruit of your
womb!“
Mary
responds
with a passage
that some people call
“The Magnificat”
It starts like this:
“My soul
Luke 1:46-55
magnifies the Lord…
According to
the records we have,
the second person that
Mary spoke to was
Elizabeth

The next time
we hear Mary speak,
Jesus is twelve years old.
His parents were returning
from Jerusalem and realized
He wasn’t with them
.
They
searched
for him for
THREE DAYS
before they found
him in the temple,
listening and asking
questions
.
And when
Luke 2:48
his parents saw him,
they were astonished.
And his mother
said to him,
“Son,
why have
you treated us so?
Behold, your father
and I have been
searching for
you in great
distress.”
Jesus
replied that
he needed to be
in his father’s
house
.
The third time
we hear Mary
speak, it is to
Jesus

Then, in the
gospel of John,
we find the fourth
and final occasion
that Mary spoke
.
John is
describing the
wedding at Cana,
and
When the wine ran out,
John 2:3
the mother of Jesus
said to him,
“They have no wine.”
This is only
the second time
that it is recorded
that Mary spoke
to her Son
.
Once
she asks him
“why are you treating
us like this?”,
and now she says
“We’re out of wine”.
So,
the first
three people
that scripture tells
us she spoke to were
angels and family.

The only OTHER audience
that she spoke to was to
a group of servants
at the wedding.
His mother said
John 2:5
to the servants,
“Do whatever
he tells you.”
Don’t
you think
it’s remarkable
that the ONLY time
she ever spoke to
OTHER PEOPLE
she said,
“DO
WHATEVER
HE TELLS YOU”
???
It wouldn’t
surprise me at all
to discover that she
would be saying the
exact same thing
to this day
,
to all
the people
who pray to her
;
what I believe
she may have been
saying all along
,
and to
continue
repeating
into eternity
,
Do
Whatever
He Tells You!
